What should you consider before choosing a hostel?
Our hostels have been setup to provide a clean, homely and lively environment keeping in mind the needs of girl students, working women and work from home ladies. Here is an FAQ/guide to help you ask the right questions when you explore a hostel.
Before choosing a hostel you should visit a few hostels and collect information and then compare what is being offered for the price you pay. Cheap doesn't mean its good.
Please review the hostel based on several parameters listed below, so that you can make an informed decision. Afterall hostel is your secondary or maybe even your primary home of residence for a long time.
Make sure to check these before you choose a hostel
- How long has the hostel been in business? How many customers have they served in the past?
- How far are the bus stops and public commuting options?
- Does the facility have CCTV coverage in common areas and entrances?
- How many bathrooms are there in the building? How many Occupants in the building. Divide the occupants by the bathrooms to find out how many bathrooms are available per person.
- How many occupants in your room and who are your room mates? How long have they been staying?
- How does the kitchen and dining area hygiene look like?
- What is their primary oil used for cooking? Is it sunflower oil or palmolein?
- What brands do they use for Atta, Rice, Oil, Pulses and Spice Powders?
- Do they use Dalda or Ghee for pongal, kesari and other items?
- Will the hostel management allow you to visit the Kitchen or Store area to check the quality of ingredients?
- How many cooks do they have? Do they have a catering diploma or are they very experienced?
- When food gets over within the allowed dining time, do they cook again if someone needs food? Or is the kitchen closed?
- Do they have a washing machine? Is it free?
- How many times can you bathe in a day? Do they refrain you from having double baths?
- Until what time late in the evening can you check in after work?
- Do they allow laptops, iron boxes, electric kettles, water heaters?
- EB bill is included or excluded from the rent? If included what is the per unit charge? Is it commercial or residential tariff?
- How long has the security staff been working in this hostel?
- Does food get prepared on time everyday?
- How much open space is available for relaxation, phone calls, study and privacy reasons?
- Do they have a normal TV, smart TV with cable subscriptions?
- What is the speed of their WiFi? Does the signal reach your room in full strength to be able to work from home using this WiFi connection?
- How many times a week do the toilets get cleaned?
- Is Room cleaning included or excluded?
- What are the leaving terms? How many days of notice is required before leaving?
- Do you get food reduction in your rent if you are absent from the hostel for many days?
- Is the hostel open during festival times like Deepavali or Pongal?
